but I suppose this one is for hardcore fans only and it s a bit of hard boiled, too.Because just at the beginning the strangest couple of police investigators ever invented, Logan and Steel, awake with that 45 % hangover in a bed together and both are naked That is the start of a rollercoaster ride of combinations only Stuart MacBride could have invented, i

As a fan of this series I ve found that they ve got increasingly farcical and lost something The relationship between Logan and Steel now takes up too much of what used to be very entertaining crime novels with Steel becoming ever a caricature and the storylines and ludicrous The series used to sit somewhere in the middle of Rebus and Christopher Brookmyr

This is the first Stuart MacBride book I have read and I found it rather odd and, in some respects, disappointing I could not decide if it was meant to be satirical or if it was just full of very dry and, in places, rather crude, humour As a crime story, I found it rather implausible and I certainly did not warm to the DI Steel character But with so many peop

This little gem begins with the most unlikely situation Stark naked and manacled together in a bed are Logan MacRae and his chain smoking boss, dangerous and wise cracking DCI Roberta Steel He s shocked, she s horrified. How did this come about We back track, because it s all part of the aftermath of the Scottish Independence Referendum, of a day and an evening

This is hugely enjoyable for the first 45% of its length, but once the two cops find themselves trapped and handcuffed, it degenerates into interminable silliness This is a shame, because the initial premise is good, there is plenty of witty banter and the writing is skilful and entertaining It s as though MacBryde got tired of the plot or ran out of new ideas

This was a novella don t usually read these as if I purchase a novel I expect at least 200 or pages, but this was free, and so I downloaded it so I could fit it in perhaps between jobs Not the usual Stuart Macbride style, he should stick to the full size books, as their is a better storyline to them This seemed a silly book everything about it seemed silly, don

A clever take on the Odd Couple idea with the usual unexpected twists and plenty of Stuart MacBride humour If your spirits need lifting this story will definitely do the job.A good stand alone story set against the backdrop of the vote for Scottish independence I enjoyed it enormously

I love all the Logan Macrae novels, every one is well worth reading and this novella is no exception, it is brilliant It focuses on the Scottish referendum and how the voting unfolds, Macrae and Steel become involved in a missing person investigation and this results in them landing in a very interesting not to say hilariously funny predicament I loved this story

This was a really great short story and gave another insight to the relationship between the characters You see them in a different light when you go back to the main novels Great idea and keeps you in suspense.

This is a short story featuring our favourite characters from Stuart MacBride s Logan McRae series DI Steel and DS McRae find themselves kidnapped and handcuffed together following on from a series of unfortunate events set against the recent Scottish referendum of independence.MacBride fans can look forward to witty dialogue, some gory bits, and the obligatory pers

Unfortunately its a short story which is included in 22 dead bodies so I paid twice for the same short storythought I d bought a proper sized novel, I felt I had been taken advantage of.

  14. Sylvia Spain Sylvia Spain says:

Love this author However, was very disappointed when the book arrived and it only has just over 100 pages, like a short story Don t think it should be marketed as a stand alone novel, fitting in a book of short tales Having said all that, the story itself did not disappoint, usual McBride s high standard, just too short

  15. Vanessa Vanessa says:

Having read all the Logan McCrae series I really enjoyed these short stories with his partner in crime sort of Roberta Will be buying the next books in the series.
