Ms Frankel highlights a number of details, consideration of which will enhance one s appreciation of the literary in the Outlander series the debt it owes to myth, stereotype, symbolism in general, and variation in human behavior and manners at different times in history It is not without merit Having said that, the book suffers greatly from having seemingly little effort expended in fact checking, and general proof reading.Beyond that, it seemed to be constructed in rather haphazard fashion Of course, it is not meant to tell a story But, in setting out highlights, in contrasting and comparing, one would be comfortable having the feeling that the book leads to a summary discourse In order to construct the text in this way one would expect to see a sort of hypothesis presented at the beginning, followed by proof texts, then conclusion This is sadly, lacking An interesting read, but, oh how much better might it have been. Gushing fans of Outlander name it the feminist Game of Thrones Is it More action packed than a romance, this historical time travel narrative soon transforms into a war saga Claire delights as the fierce, prickly World War II nurse who falls for Jamie, the sensitive Highlands outlaw He offers than a fling or even a timeless love, as he guides the heroine to a deeper level of spirituality Of course, Diana Gabaldon explores much about modern gender construction Her heroines shoot pirates, while the Highlanders blend courtly gallantry with bloodthirsty battles How the books and show address nudity, violence, gender roles, and the elusive female gaze reveals much about the characters, as well as ourselves i have never belonged to a book club but imagine a discussion on Outlander would kind of sound like this book the author pulls out some interesting points that I did not pick up on while enjoying both the reading and viewing of Outlander who wants to analyze when there is adventure to be had Two reasons I did not give 5 stars are I had bought the book expecting a stronger reliance on academic references to learn about the culture of the time period and the views on gender The other reason is that I thought it could have benefited from a second edit although, I do like her writing voice, very natural, not stuffy. It is a short and compact book reviewing the subjects outlined on the cover It has good explanations for the customs of the times Expect that the book will refer much to the Game of Thrones, so you will understand of the book by being familiar with that series as well. Good information I really enjoyed this book purchased it to give me details while reading the Outlander series Good reading all about the Gabldon series, and much to thik about in the plethora of information. The book shows how we ve changed and how some of our stereo types shouldn t be. I love the Outlander series, It is one of the most enjoyable series I have read I appreciated the history as they traveled from one country to another and then arriving in America I just could not appreciate this book like a behind the scenes of the movie, There is nothing wrong with this book It is just not my cup of tea. I have not finished reading this book Check back later.
