Mighty Jack and Zita the Spacegirl It s the middle grade team up of the century as the heroes of New York Times bestselling author Ben Hatke join forces to save the world in Mighty Jack and Zita the Spacegirl Jack and Lilly are no strangers to heroics They ve befriended dragons, battled giants, and even earned the loyalty of a goblin army So when they meet Zita the Spacegirl, fresh from her interplanetary travels and seeking their help to face a new threat, they re than ready for another adventure But the danger growing just outside the door to their world is greater than anything the new friends could have imagined An army of giants and screeds stands ready to lay siege to Earth, determined to put the age of humans to an end With the gate between worlds growing weaker and time running out, can the heroes come together to save their world from their greatest enemy yet This is the fourth book in the Zita the Spacegirl series and the third book in the Mighty Jack series This was an amazingly fun read just like all the previous books in this series I love these characters, this story, and the illustration style This looks like it will be the last book in this series, but I hold out hope that we may see adventures with these characters In this book Zita and Jack come together to battle an army of giants and screeds alike It will take all of both teams abilities to save the Earth from this biggest threat yet.The illustration is bright and colorful and the story is fast paced and engaging There s a lot of humor in here as well as a lot of action I love the themes around friendship as well.Overall this is a great series for kids and adults alike It s been one of my absolute favorite graphic novel series I would recommend to fans of graphic novel series or to those looking for a good graphic novel series to read with their kids The Mighty Jack series has also featured an autistic main character Jack s sister and this is a good addition to the series. Morning,Since I came across Ben Hatke s series of Mighty Jack and Zita the Space Girl, I have loved both series and have all the books on my Kindle Paperwhite Gen 2 When I saw they were doing a crossover novel, I immediately pre ordered it a few months back, and waited till Sept 3rd The day came I was ready to sit down on my sun deck and read the book, but sadly I couldn t It seems that the book I bought, was not compatible with my Paperwrite, and would not open up I never considered this an issues, since I have all the novels with both series on my Kindle and they work fine I ended up reading the book on my iPhone via Kindle app, but it wasn t the same, significantly dampening the experience All in all, the book was fantastic, but not being in a format I could enjoy on my Kindle sadly dropped the score down for me.Please be aware, you haven t lost a reader Ben, but I will be cautious now buying your work in Kindle form.Thank you and have a good day. My 5yo and I love the Ben Hatke books The Zita trilogy is amazing and books 1 and 2 of Mighty Jack are fantastic They are the few books that hold my son s attention each time we read them We also have have Little Robot, who s main character has a cameo in Mighty Jack book 1 I recommend them all I was looking forward to Mighty Jack and Zita the Spacegirl very very much, but I m sorry to say that I m a little disappointed in both the artwork and the story This book seems to be out of step with the others Zita is older than I would have liked I got over that , Lilly s character seemed too weak, Phelix is lacking his likable arrogant charm, and the way the Giants are defeated left me scratching my head Don t let me ruin it though it s just my opinion At first read, I think this book is worth two stars by itself, but I gave it four stars because I like the other books so much that I must take the good with the mediocre I ll read this again and again as I did with the others and hope it gets better, but sadly my first read fell short of my expectations of Ben Hatke s brilliance Even my 5yo, who is usually riveted, was paying little attention I can only hope Ben Hatke has better stories to come My son and I are still fans and I ll continue to marvel at the artwork and plot twists and turns from the other books this one might take a few reads. I pre ordered the book months ago after both my kids 8 and 10 devoured the Zita and the Spacegirl series while on vacation last summer giving us so much need quiet when it was needed They enjoyed the Mighty Jack series as well and were excited though impatient to see that a new book was coming that would combine them They were both super excited when it arrived and have read it at least five times each already One of them is even taking it to school to pass around to his friends who are also enjoying it So there you have it The 8 year old says Best book ever Best book of both series and the 10 year old says It s Ben Hatke s best book This is a masterpiece from a genius of a storyteller and gifted artist Somehow Ben Hatke has succeeded in crafting a story that threads together robots, giants, goblins, humans, and dragons alike, across many worlds and everything in between. In some ways my daughter and I read this as a love letter to Ben Hatke s fans, to the world of Zita and Jack, and even, I would say, to the grand adventure of life itself At bottom this is an adventure story with heroes and villains, trials and tribulations, and joys and aches But it s also an examination of what it s like to pursue a life of virtue and how we ought to live, as well as, perhaps, a clarion call for solidarity.I hope I m wrong, but I also sense this work is a farewell to Zita and Jack. A tougher write for our favorite author, I suspect, but it all worked, and nicely Zita and Lily had their issues, which were expected but well resolved, and it was incredible fun all the way through This is story telling at its very best, and I always tear up at the end don t tell, okay And the goblins, always the goblins They are so appealing. Let s get the one drawback out of the way Mighty Jack and Zita the Spacegirl is not a good jumping on book Three Zita and two Jack books precede it I don t know if are coming but I doubt it This reads like the perfect ending to both series I love the art, the characters, the sprawling story My best guess is, other folks who take the time to read these series will love this book too. We love these books My kids have read them over and over, and never get tired of pulling them out for another viewing Highly recommend for parents looking for graphic novels for their children that have age appropriate humor and action My 9 and 11 year old love them.
